Summerhill, Atlanta, Georgia 1999
Summerhill is a renewed neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia. I was an artist-in-residence at the Hambidge Center in Rabun Gap, about 2 hours away. After a week or so I was starved for a city as Hambidge is in a very rural area. I came across Summerhill and I can remember thinking that here was another series. Load the camera, hang the light meter around my neck, shove 6 or 8 rolls of film in my pocket and start walking. Several hours later, I was done. Because this was shot on film and printed in a darkroom, I would develop the film several weeks later and then begin to make prints. To print a series like this usually took two weeks or more. The prints for this series are about 12.5 inches square.
